If you have recently purchased a new WinTV product and it came with a WinTV v8.5 Activation code, you can install WinTV v10 with this code. This only applies to unused WinTV v8.5 Activation Codes.

Installation notes for WinTV v10:

If you do not have a WinTV v10 Activation Code, you can purchase a new WinTV v10 Activation Code on the Hauppauge webstore.

• To install the Windows driver: - Leave your tuner plugged into your PC. Follow the following steps: - Download the driver (click the Download button above). Unzip this file to a directory you will remember. It will create a new folder. To install the new Windows driver, open the folder and run HCWDRIVERINSTALL.EXE.
• Search for your Hauppauge product by product code. How to find the product code of your Hauppauge product: Hauppauge product codes on WinTV boards are normally found on the TV tuner. This is a five digit number normally followed by a revision (REV). You need to look at the first two numbers to determine the product type.
• When you plug the device into your USB, Windows will look for the associated driver, if it cannot find this driver then you will be prompted to insert the driver disc that came with your device. Common USB Device errors are ‘ usb port not working ‘, ‘device descriptor request failed error’ or ‘bugcodeusbdriver’ issues.
• Hauppauge WinTV 8.5 on 32-bit and 64-bit PCs. This download is licensed as freeware for the Windows (32-bit and 64-bit) operating system on a laptop or desktop PC from video players without restrictions. Hauppauge WinTV 8.5 is available to all software users as a free download for Windows.

If you have purchased an Activation Code for WinTV v10 with Extend from the Hauppauge Webstore, the latest version of WinTV v10 with Extend will be installed.

Installation on multiple computers: the WinTV application can be installed on as many PCs as needed as long as you use the same Hauppauge device. We link the serial number of your TV tuner (sometimes it's the MAC address) with the Activation code. So as long as you use the same Hauppauge device, you can install on more than one computer.

WinTV v10 installation instructions

The WinTV v10 installer will install Windows drivers before installing the WinTV v10 application. It will also remove any pieces of a previous WinTV version before installing the new version.

• Step 1: Download the WinTV v10 installer by clicking the download button above. The WinTV v10 installer is normally saved in the Download folder on your PC
• Step 2: Run wintv10setup from the Download folder on your PC. If you see the message 'Windows Protected Your PC, Windows Smartscreen prevented an unrecognized app ...', click 'More info' and 'Run anyway'. Windows Smartscreen is a new 'feature' in Windows 10 to prevent new updates from being installed automatically.
• Step 3: Halfway through the installation, a message will pop up asking for you to enter the Activation Code.
• Step 4: At the Activation required screen, click on Enter Activation code and enter the activation code which was emailed to you or is printed on the WinTV v10 activation card. You do not need to enter the dashes, and you can use upper or lower case characters.
• Step 5: When the installation is complete, you will find the WinTV icon on your Windows desktop. Double click on this icon and the WinTV application will run. On the first run of WinTV, it will automatically go through the TV source selection and will scan for channels.

How do I rescan channels?

In the Device Setup Wizard, you will see a list of TV formats which your Hauppauge TV tuner can support. Depending upon which Hauppauge tuner you have, you will have a choice of analog, digital or external inputs (see the second picture below). You can also select all formats and let the WinTV application show you what it finds in each format (if anything).

Click Next and Next and let WinTV scan for channels. The results should look like picture 3 below.

The Hauppauge Nova-T stick DVB-T Tuner provides sharper TV pictures and near CD quality audio which can be used at any time any where. It can be connected to your notebook or PC in your computers USB 2.0 port. It provides pause digital TV with instant replay. You could also record TV programs to your PC's hard disk using high quality MPEG-2 compression which can be played on your PC screen at any time. You could also schedule TV recording using Win TV scheduler or free 7 day EPG (Electronic Program Guide). One can even listen to radio through the device. It is also media center compatible using the Microsoft media center which allows you to watch and record TV on it. This includes Hauppauge's IR remote control for easy control of Win TV and also a portable antenna so that you can digital TV away from home.

The minimum processor speed it can operate on is 1.2 Giga hertz on an Intel Pentium processor, OS X version 10.4 or later or an apple Mac with an Intel processor. Its optimum operating system is Microsoft windows vista with 32 and 64 bit or XP with 32 bit only with service pack two. The minimum graphics it requires is 64 mega bytes of memory in ones computer or laptop plus a sound card or on board sound. It can only work with a USB 2.0 port and not USB 1.1.the computer should also have CD-ROM drive for software installation. The multimedia TV tuner is DVB-T with a video coding of MPEG-2. It should also be direct draw compatible and have PCI/AGP graphics card. A terrestrial aerial high gain is also recommended. Internet connection is also recommended for activation of the tube.
